Teen Summer Classes Especially for Her

Utah Summer Classes for Teens and Kids

Summer Classes for Empowering Utah Teen Girls Begin Wednesday June 8

Voice Empowerment Class for Girls

Voices: Empowering Utah Teen Girls 13-18 (8-week course)

Thank you to the Utah Board of Juvenile Justice grant for funding this summer’s nationally celebrated Voices; an 8-week curriculum designed by renowned trauma-informed clinician and author Dr. Stephanie Covington to meet the unique needs of today’s adolescent girls.

Voices was created to address the unique needs of adolescent girls and young women. It encourages them to seek and celebrate their “true selves” by providing a safe space, encouragement, structure, and the support they need to embrace their journeys of self-discovery. The program includes modules on self, connecting with others, healthy living, and the journey ahead.

Each girl receives her own interactive journal to aid in her self-discovery. She will be provided a safe space, encouragement and structure to explore herself, her connection with others and healthy living along with learning more about important social issues such as bullying and social media.

Voices has been successfully implemented in many communities and schools across North America.

What is the “Summer Slide” and How Can VOICES Fight it?

School’s out, and it’s time for both teachers and students to relax before preparing for next year. But even over summer break, students still need educational opportunities so they can return to school strong and ready to learn more. Unfortunately, not all students have the same academic opportunities available to them during the summer.

One of the most common causes of the achievement gap, or the differences in scores between disadvantaged and advantaged children and teens, is summer learning loss (also known as the “summer slide”).

Because at-risk students don’t always have educational resources over the summer, they are particularly vulnerable to losing knowledge gained over the school year. But when parents and educators team up, they can help prevent summer learning loss from affecting their students.

Voices is based on the realities of girls’ lives and the principles of gender responsivity; it is also grounded in theory, research, and clinical experience.

The Voices curriculum advocates a strength-based approach and uses a variety of therapeutic approaches, including psychoeducational, cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, body-oriented, and expressive arts.
